Ti Kouka have been exploring the importance of eating a rainbow of different coloured vegetables and fruit to keep their bodies healthy and ready for exercise and learning
.
We tried some different coloured fruits and used our senses to describe what they looked like, felt like and tasted like.
Apples are fresh and crunchy.
Oranges are circles and they are juicy and sweet.
Bananas are soft, squishy and white on the inside and yellow on the outside.
Pears are crunchy and juicy.
Grapes are juicy, purple and sweet.
We have also been learning the names of some fruits in Te Reo Māori. You could try using these at home too!
Welcome to our studio blog. We are 60 Year 1 and 2 ACTIVE Halswell kids who are excited about sharing our learning. We hope you enjoy our posts and we would love you to leave a comment.

Open door Friday
We had lots of fun making creations with the egg cartons today.
Some children followed an instruction card while others made up their own creation.
Making treasure chests were very popular.
Sheep, dragons, crocodiles, boats, dogs and chickens also featured.
We had some super helpers in the garden. They helped plant some new seedlings and did some much needed weeding.
We love how the children use their imaginations during play.
"We are in a control tower and we are squashing giants!"
Schools is always a favourite.
Walk, Wheel Wednesday
T14 worked out that:
8 people scootered to school on Wednesday which made 16 wheels.
9 people came in the car which was 36 wheels
2 people biked which was 8 wheels
Can you work out how many wheels there are for T10?
How to keep healthy...
This week we have been learning about how we can keep healthy. In our learning logs we brainstormed all the things we can do to keep healthy on the inside and outside.
Then we used Book Creator and our plan to make a How to Keep Healthy Book.
When we were working with our buddies we took turns and helped each other.

Making 10 with the Cuisenaire rods
We started by looking at Cuisenaire Rods and figuring out how much each rod as worth.
The challenge was to make different patterns with the rods that added to 10.
We made the challenge trickier by adding to the number 15!
