Call The Man At The Zoo...

Last week the Lovely Lions reading group read a book called...

We decided on our favourite animal and drew a picture of it.

Force Friday!

Huritini had a fantastic day of science fun and hands on investigations involving toys and forces.

The Ferrymead educators taught us about the science of toys - exploring the forces that make simple toys move; brought a variety of toys and games from before the days of TV and computers; and helped us make a homemade toy called a thaumatrope.

The tamariki were awesome ACTIVE learners and scientists, as they investigated magnets, ramps, floating and sinking, gravity, air resistance and friction.

The teachers were very impressed with the children's participation, amazing ideas and questions throughout the day.  We look forward to learning and investigating more about toys and forces over the term!

Water Safety

We have loved swimming. For our last session at the pool, the focus was on water safety.
We learned:
If we see someone in trouble in the water to quickly get an adult to help.
If we are at the beach we need to swim between the flags.
If we accidentally fall into the pool, we practised turning onto our backs and floating like a starfish.
To know how deep the water is before you get in.
Put your hand up if you can and wave for help.

Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali to all the families celebrating Diwali this weekend. We were lucky to have a family share with us some treats to help celebrate Diwali. Jack thought the little balls tasted better than lolly cake. The savoury treats were yummy too!
