Art Gallery & Gardens trip

On Monday Ti Kouka had a fun day out, visiting the Christchurch Art Gallery and Botanic Gardens.

At the Art Gallery we enjoyed looking at the Wheriko - Brilliant! exhibition which features some amazing light-based artworks.  We then made our own cool sun medallion artworks.

At the Gardens we had a wonderful time exploring and playing. We completed a Spring Scavenger Hunt too, finding lots of Spring-time sights, sounds and smells.

The children did a great job of being ACTIVE learners outside of the classroom.  A huge thank you to the parents who came to help out with this trip - we couldn't have done it without you!

Challenging ourselves during PMP

We have been working hard during PMP to increase our fitness and strength.

We did it! Problem-solving how to try and get the body rocker to balance in the middle.

Trying our best to complete the different stations.
Two bean bags! Making walking the snake more challenging.

Focusing to get the ball to hit the target.

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

This week to celebrate Maori language week, we have been reading and writing about the taniwha. We looked at several picture books featuring a taniwha. We then experimented on whiteboards drawing our own taniwha.

Next we took our best ideas and drew a taniwha with vivid for our calendar art.

We practised using our focusing muscle when we were dying our pictures.

Then we wrote descriptions about our taniwha. We tried to use WOW words in our descriptions and a simile. We hope you enjoy reading our Taniwha book.

Maths - Working together to give directions

For the past two weeks, we have been doing coding activities to help us practise giving directions. We have been practising using the language forwards, backwards, right, left, quarter-turn and half-turn.

We had lots of fun working with our buddies using the Bee-Bots, the Bee-Bot app and teddies when we have been doing unplugged coding.

It has been tricky learning how to give a series of directions.

We are learning to wash our hands!

This week we had Gina from Crest Clean come and teach us about how and when to wash or hands!

They used a blue UV light to show how germs can stay on our hands even after we have washed them!

We learned that we need to hum 'Happy Birthday' twice while washing our hands.

We also wrote instruction about how to clean out a hand.
1. Put soap on our hands.
2. Wet our hands.
3. Dip our nails in the soap, rub our hands and wrists.
4. Hum happy birthday 2 times.
5. Rinse our hands in water.
6. Dry out hands in the dryer or with a towel.
