PE and Library on Tuesdays

This term we are focusing on target games during PE. T14 has been having lots of fun playing the game Beat the Dragons. The children came up with lots of ideas about how they could make the game harder.

Some children added more dragons.

Others decided to go further away from the target.

After PE we love reading books in the library and relaxing.

How we can care for our school and our planet

Yay, we won Tidy Ted this week!!!

We are building a culture in Tī Kōuka that if you see a piece of rubbish you should pick it up.  The children were really concerned about how sea creatures are being affected by the amount of rubbish that is getting into our waterways.

They couldn't believe how much rubbish our caretaker Phil got out of our drain. This week we worked really hard to pick up the rubbish we saw and to keep our cubby area tidy. Look at the big improvement from last week.
Week 5's rubbish graph

Lots of children were keen to share their lunch boxes with the studio to show how they are rubbish free.

Christopher's lunchbox had a reusable pouch for yoghurt or fruit.

Thank you to all the families who are helping to keep our environment litter free.

Challenging work helps make our brains grow stronger

Watch to see how Mojo discovers how to make his brain stronger.-Link to video

We discussed these questions after we watched Mojo -Chapter 5...

What feelings do you have when something is too hard? Is it okay to feel that way?

What kind of attitude should we have when facing a challenge, and why is that important?

When doing something challenging, it's okay to ask for help or to take a break to reflect, like Mojo did! Does this mean we aren't growing our brain anymore?

Navigating Matific & Dot Card Games

This week we have been learning to log on to Matific. We each have our own login and have been learning how to navigate logging in and using the app independently.

Click Here to go to the Matific Log In Page
There is also an App available for download.

Matific has game-based maths learning activities that are assigned by the T group teacher and match the NZ curriculum.

We have also been learning new games to play with the Dot Cards to help develop our number sense.

Sea Week

This week we have been celebrating Sea Week and learning about how we can take care of our ocean.

We have been talking about our rubbish graph and trying hard to keep taking care of our cubby area.

We watched a video that helps us understand the effects that our rubbish can have on our favourite sea creatures. We described all the different ways that we can take care of our sea.

Some of us read the Flying Fish reading book and had a go at making our own fish kite.
